Rhap365 Day 36: Dust and Dying in Palestine

I call this thing ‪#‎Rhapsody365‬ (Day 36) but I really ought to call it DeathandDust365. Seems I am on a theme of all things parched.

I have a new habit. I like to drop in on off road cemeteries when traveling the backroads. This one on the highway north of Sheridan, AR.

The Sky in thees looks kind of fake. I can tell you, no special tricks. It really did look like God dodged and burned. Then just a touch of sunset punched through (the the light on the one monument is from a flash.)

Rhap365 Day 35: Siding Anyone?

This store is a town so small, it doesn't have a name, or a sign. But you can find it on some maps. But I don't have that map. So I just Call it Mayway. (Half way between Mayflower and Conway, Arkansas)

I hope not to overdo it, but I am now a few days into my dallies with HDR. So expect to see lots of static things, with rich tonal range.

So, would you buy siding from thee folks, or leave an invoice?

Rhap365 Day 34: If these Walls

Tonight I went back out and visited a schoolroom in Menifee, Arkansas. The elementary students of Menifee now go to school in Conway some 6 miles to the east. Today, I think of Menifee as a place you must not drive faster than 45mph, a mile before you get there, and then no faster than 35 mph as you pass by its three churches, a community building and a police station. But I am most curious. Menifee appears to be an "island" African American community. I have no sense how it came to be such, as the surrounding communities are largely white.

Just being in this  space makes me wonder about the lives that passed through this classroom, and where those people are today.

Rhap365 Day 32. Old dog learns new tricks

What had been (some time ago) the Menifee, Arkansas elementary school.


Those of you on my named Facebook page may have already seen these, but yesterday I attempted my very first HDR's ever. I have one photo-buff friend who says I did "okay" for my first try. Indeed, I do see ways to improve all of these, but I am pretty stoked. I think I will be trying a lot more Heightened Dynamic Range photos in the future.

You would think that as a guy who has been taking pictures for this long, I would have tried an HDR image before now. But nope.  Mostly, because I have seen a lot of BAD HDR. But then, I have seen some really superb stuff, that looks full but not fake. Who knows, this one still feels a little overdone.

For the unacquainted, HDR is a photo technique in which the photographer uses his or her computer to blend several images of the same thing, which were taken at different exposures. In this case I took 5 exposures of this setting, and then used Photoshop to blend the images for more detail in the shadows. What do you think?

Well, there goes the neighborhood. I have missed several days in a row of my 365, not because of a lack of images... but because of too many. I have been running hither and yawn (is that really the phrase) taking pictures of events and such. Just no time to post. So here is a quick volley from this morning's dalley with an eternal flame, combined with playing with levels in PhotoShop. What shapes do you see?
